Hello Marlin Families,

We will be taking our team pictures this Friday at 8 a.m.  Please have your child wear their swim team suit and the boys should wear their Marlin shirts as well.

Individual pictures will be taken immediately after.  Fun Friday will still take place.  Girls will take individual pictures (around 8-8:30) first followed by the boys (around 8:30-9).

Please print one of these forms for each child you have on the swim team and bring it with you on Friday morning.  All checks should made out to the Macaulay Marlins.

A big thank you Jill Alkins for stepping up to take pictures for us!
100% of profit from these pictures will go back to the swim team.

A Shutterfly site has also been created so please feel free to post pictures from practices or meets.

Here is the link: http://macaulaymarlins.shutterfly.com/

We will add you as a member after you log in.

Thank you,
Lauren Lowry

Congratulations on a great first meet!  We are excited that we are inching in on Birkdale every year.  Even better, everyone did their best and returning swimmers improved their times!

Please see the attached results and remember that swimming is all about setting personal goals and working hard to reach them...while having fun of course!

During tomorrow's practice we will focus on dives and turns.  Don't forget that there is a Fun Friday this week, which is when all swimmers will receive ribbons.

Keep up the good work Marlins!  Let's get ready for Wynfield next!

Hello Marlin Families,

I know you are excited to see your child's entries but please read all of the information below.

Here is a reminder of the morning practice schedule:

June 10th - July 12th

Age Group          Time
(Monday-Thursday - meet days included)
6 & under             7:30 - 8 a.m.
7                         8 - 8:30 a.m.
8                         8:30 - 9 a.m.
9/10                    9 - 9:30 a.m.
11/12                   9:30 - 10:00 a.m.
13 & up               10:00 - 10:30 a.m.

FUN Fridays- This will take place every Friday and there is no regular practice.
Girls (all ages)      8-9 a.m.
Boys (all ages)     9-10 a.m.

If you have not picked up your Marlin shirt and cap yet, you can do so tomorrow morning at swim team practice.  Please be sure to put your child's name on their shirt and cap.

We have several adult shirts for sale that you can wear to show support for the Marlins.  Quantities are very limited. 3 Adult Small, 4 Adult Medium, 2 Adult Large, and 4 Adult XL.  The cost of the shirt is $12 and can be made out to Macaulay Marlins. Please email Doris Robertson @ dorisrobertson@bellsouth.net if you are interested.

As you may have noticed, there is a change to the swim meet on June 25th.  On the original schedule, we had an away meet against Leacroft. They were not able to recruit enough swimmers this season as they are one of the smallest teams to begin with and had to pull out of the league.  We will now have a home meet on that day against Cowan's Ford.

We will have a lap lane open from 8:00-8:30 for those swimmers who are attending camps certain weeks throughout the swim team season.  Most summer camps tend to start at 9 so this will give them some time to do laps for conditioning but please know that this is not an instructional practice.  This is only for those that are 9/10 age group and above for safety purposes.

I have attached the Birkdale meet entry reports (in.pdf format) by name and event.
If you are working this meet and are unsure of what your job entails, please go to the volunteer page to see a job description.

Please write the first letter of child's name and then your last name on your child's forearm.  Under that, please write the number of the event. This is especially helpful when lining up the little ones.

For example,

R. Lowry
 12
 23
 46
 63

Please be sure your child is at Birkdale at 5:00 for warm-ups.  We can not enter Birkdale before 4:45 so please do not arrive before then.  Remember to bring your chair, towels, water, & patience.

Please remember that we are keeping our child gathering area a peanut free zone.

For our new swimmers: The kids line up their towels to sit on in the child gathering area and they often get wet so bring an extra towel to wrap around them after they swim.

Be sure to wear blue on Tuesday to show your support!

Go Marlins!!!

Hello swim families,

I  realize many of you have been waiting and wondering. . .and now the mystery is over!  With all of the last-minute changes. . .new families joining and a few families leaving as late as Friday. . .it is necessary to send out the volunteer schedule as close to the start of the meets as possible.  This is why you are receiving this schedule just days before our first Birkdale meet on Tuesday.

I have spent hours trying to coordinate everyone’s availability and plugging you all in to volunteer slots that would best fit you and the needs of the MacAulay Marlins.  I sincerely hope you find your job a rewarding experience as we know we are doing this because our kids enjoy summer swim season.  Have fun with it!  With that being said, if for whatever reason, you find that you can’t work the volunteer position you have been scheduled for, then you must find your own replacement.  And then please let me know of the change so that I can note that on the master volunteer schedule.  If you don’t make your volunteer times, then the swim board cannot return your swim deposit.  But most importantly, however, we are counting on you to contribute your part so that the whole team and meet functions well.  We need everyone’s participation!

I have assigned most of you to two meets.  You are scheduled for 3 meets if you are not going to make it to the championship meet.  Swim meets begin promptly at 6pm.  You need to check in with me by 530pm at the meet in which you are volunteering.  I will be waiting at an area with the stopwatches and clipboards for timers.  You will sign in and get a name tagIf you don’t check in with me, then I don’t know you are there.  . .and you may not get credit for your volunteer time.

If you are volunteering and are running a little late to the meet, then please call me at 704-577-7809. . .to ensure I don’t give away your position to another and have you volunteer at another meet instead!

Thank you for your time and commitment.  Looking forward to seeing you at the meets!

Jeanne Setzer

Good morning Marlins~

We are getting close to the start of our season and wanted to welcome everyone back!  As you know every year we have a mad scramble to fill some jobs to help run our swim team once the season has already started.  This year we are going to start a little sooner....rather than later!   Below is a list of jobs (and descriptions) that must be filled.  Please let us know if you can step up and fill a position!  :)

Swim Team Board Members:  We are in need of a few more people on the neighborhood board.  Doris and I are stepping down.  A HUGE thank you to Lauren Lowry and Heather Lauro who have stepped up.  We would love to have a couple more volunteers.  The main job is to make sure the team is run smoothly, be the liaison between the board and the pool committee and the coaches.

Registration:  (Heather Lauro, Tara Owens, and Lisa Schwanz?) Will host two dates at the club house to accept swimmers paperwork and money.  Will pay fee's to the swim league and handle volunteer commitment checks.  Doris Robertson will guide you the first year.

T-shirts and Caps: Must work with Stitch 98 to get a T-shirt printed for swimmers and coaches and deliver to swimmers and coaches prior to the first meet.  Possibly working with sponsors for logo on the back of the shirt.

Spirit Wear:  Can be combined with T-shirts and caps.  Looking for someone to come up with some fun MacAulay Marlins wear for the parents.  T-shirts, visors etc....possibly as a fundraiser.

Trophies: Someone to work with a trophies and awards store to order trophies for the banquet.  Must work with in a budget and must get trophies organized for the banquet.

Volunteer Coordinator:  Someone who is great with organization and spreadsheets.....  Must schedule every family to work 2 home meets plus a shift at the championship.  Heather Lauro has offered to guide you the first year.

Communications:  Someone to email the team with directions, meet times, meet information and to communicate any changes etc.... Kelley Hannam will guide you the first year.

League Representative:  Someone to work with the League on rules, guidelines, schedules etc.....A swimming background would be helpful!

Concessions:  We have two home meets this year and concessions is our only fundraiser at this time.  We need someone willing to run concessions....purchase, cook and sell food.  If you sign up to run one of the home meets, then we waive your other home volunteer position.  Meaning you will only work 1 home meet and a shift at the championship meet.   We realize a lot goes into purchasing the food, setting up, working, tearing down etc....

End of Season Banquet:  (Rachel Lewis?)  Planning the end of year banquet, purchasing food and organizing sign up genius etc....

Computers:  (Don Hannam and Kristina Dudan?)  Running the meets and computing information and compiling results

Photographer:  (Jill Alkin?)  Group picture and individual.  Will take the picture and distribute pictures.

Ribbon Coordinator:  Someone to make sure everyone has the correct ribbons and have them alphabetized for fun Friday handout.  Must be detail oriented and must be able to deliver to coaches in a timely manner.

Fundraiser Chair:  Someone who may have connections or ideas for fundraising for the swim team.  We have not done this in the past but would love someone to take charge.  Finding sponsors and/or fundraising ideas would be great.

Also, now that morning practices have started, we will officially begin Fun Friday's!   There will be two sessions, one for girls and one for boys.  Ribbons from the week's meets, as well as a special treat, will be given out at the end of each session.  Please plan on the following two sessions listed below for each Friday unless you hear otherwise!

Girls (all ages) -  8:00 - 8:45 a.m.
Boys (all ages) - 8:45 - 9:30 a.m.

Thank you!
